I’m not the best web designer out there but here are a few tips i learned when i first started designing.
- Layout must be viewable in any screen resolution. Most of you may be using 1024×768 resolution but not everyone else. The most common resolution used is 800×600 so make sure your layout can be viewed nicely at this resolution.
- Header images should have small file size so it would load fast. Not everyone has DSL connection. The best thing to do is slice them.
- Colors matter. I’m not very good with color combination so i use colors of the same shade or get schemes from Color Schemer
- Font should be readable. Some people have a hard time reading small fonts so i suggest using 12px, it should be enough.
- Organize.
- Test your layout before uploading it. Try WAMP5. I recommend this for dial-up users. You don’t want to waste your precious internet card with a time consuming process of designing a layout. You can install Wordpress with WAMP5 and test your layout in it. :)
Well, that’s all i can remember at the moment. I’ll add things up when i remember them.
