The Notebook

Posted by nix On February - 9 - 2008

I watched The Notebook this morning when Kendo woke me up at 5:30am and i couldn’t get back to sleep.

The Notebook is based from Nicholas Sparks‘ best selling novel. Staring Ryan Gosling as Noah Calhoun and Rachel McAdams as Allie Hamilton.

I’ve heard a lot of good reviews about this movie. Though during the time it was shown in theaters, i was not interested because i thought it was boring. But perception changes, and change is constant. I had been thinking of how this movie interest me after a few years since it was released.

One day i was in a bookstore, the novel caught my attention and i thought that since I’m back in a reading mood1, i might as well try to read it. I didn’t purchase the book yet because i have tons of books lying around the house that needs to be read. Let’s just say it now belongs to my long reading list. Then i realized that i bought a DVD collection of love stories and The Notebook is first on it’s list so i popped it in the player and watched and cried and could barely breathe after watching it.

It was terrible. I cried like a baby2. I could feel how the character was feeling if it was me in the character’s position. I loved it so much that i am going to buy the book when i get the chance and read it right away. I’m sure I’ll cry again.

Have you ever felt like wanting to cry but really have nothing to cry about? Or you want to cry about something but you don’t really want that to be the reason for crying? Well i have. And watching or reading dramas are a good excuse for those kinds of feelings for me. Does that make sense?

It was so sad, what happened to Noah and Allie, and at the same time, so sweet of Noah to dedicate his life, reading their life’s story to his forgetful wife3 every chance he gets just to make her remember. It’s sad that Noah had to endure the pain of making his wife remember, then she’d forget about him and their love in a span of 5 minutes. No wonder he has had 2 heart attacks in 18 months. And at the end, they died lying in bed together, holding each other’s hands. Oh how that made me cry like hell.

Yes, all i can say is that it is such a sad story and it made me cry a lot.

I rate this movie 9.7

  1. i have been reading books again for the past weeks []
  2. i always cry even in a movie with the slightest hint of drama in it []
  3. i forgot what her illness was called, it’s not Alzheimer’s though []

[...] I think i could say that i now consider Nicholas Sparks as my favorite author. Though i don’t think i have read any of his books, i love all of the movies that were derived from his novels. I just watched The Notebook this morning and wrote about it here. [...]
