Living, Loving, and hating Life

Fixed my bookshelf

Posted by nix On October - 2 - 2008

A couple of weeks back, i re-arranged my bookshelf. I do that from time to time. Whenever i have a new book, i just put it in without arranging the other books properly. I also don’t like anyone else to meddle with the shelf because i arranged it according to my OC self. I’m not really OC, just when it comes to my bookshelf and my dresser.

I love books and i don’t know why. Mom said i’ve been a book reader since i was young. But when i look back, i only remember reading books with pictures in them. It was 6th grade when i discovered my passion for reading pocket books. Some of my classmates would bring their copies of Sweet Valley High and exchange copies with one another and goes the reading session, even during class!

Then the fad faded and it wasn’t till Junior high when i rediscovered my love for reading. My mom was on vacation in the States and bought me 4 books of Harry Potter. She said it was “IN” and that everyone was reading it. I was excited because i loved the concept of the book. Back then, Harry Potter was not that popular here in the Philippines. It wasn’t until a few weeks that had past before i took a Harry Potter book from my bookshelves and read it. I was hooked right away!

I’d read whenever i got home, i would sometimes bring one big book with me just to read it while unwanted classes were going on. Some classmates would make fun of me, some would say i’m wasting my time reading the book. I even brought books 3 and 4 to our school retreat just to read before i slept. They thought i was crazy for being hooked to a hard bound book.

When the first Harry Potter movie came out, i was the one laughing at them. They all went to watch the movie and because they didn’t read the book, they had a lot of questions. Questions that only i could answer. Who’s laughing now?

I waited for the 5th book to come out. But while it was still months away till the release, i bought other books. Pocket books were more my type. I bought series’ like Charmed, Sweep, and Fearless. I also purchased love story pocket books from time to time. I really loved to read.

I still love the idea of reading, but time is not on my side. There are things i need to do and reading takes time. I’ll go back to reading when i’m finished with school. So many books to read, so little time.

Pugad Baboy and The Shack

Posted by nix On September - 28 - 2008

The other day, my class ended early and i called mom to tell her about it. She asked me to run an errand, which i did, but the rain poured while i was walking and so i headed to Shangri-La. I was stranded and i decided to waste my time in my favorite place, Powerbooks. I looked around, found some interesting books. There were lots of books that caught my attention and i would love to read them but i just don’t have the time. I have over a dozen books at home that has to be read before i go off and buy new ones. But i just can’t help it! One way or another i’d end up buying a book or two, and they’d end up in the bookshelf to rot before they’re opened.

And then, i noticed one of the shelves, holding a copy of the latest issue off Pugad Baboy comics! Woot! 20th book! I so love this comic because it’s witty funny. It always have me laughing my ass off even in the strangest places. People would look at me because i’m laughing while reading my copy of the book. LOL.

I was still reading it at home. But i didn’t get to finish it because i had mom bring it with her in Vancouver so she won’t get bored and has something to laugh about. I’ll finish it when she gets home.

I also bought The Shack, it wasn’t in my intention to purchase anything other than Pugas Baboy 20 but i did buy The Shack because of the mystery in it’s story.

The back page reads:

Mackenzie Allen Philiips’s youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later, in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious nore, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend.

Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack’s world forever.

In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant THE SHACK wrestles with the timeless question, “Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?” The answer Mack gets will astound you and perhaps transform you as much as it did him. You’ll want everyone you know to read this book!

I don’t know what got me to buy this book but i just felt like buying it. I’ll read it when my schedule clears a little.

Nicholas Sparks

Posted by nix On February - 9 - 2008

I think i could say that i now consider Nicholas Sparks as my favorite author. Though i don’t think i have read any of his books, i love all of the movies that were derived from his novels. I just watched The Notebook this morning and wrote about it here.

I also loved A Walk to Remember, even though during the time it was shown i disliked Mandy Moore1, i saw the movie on VCD back then. And i have also seen Message in a Bottle but i rarely remember how the story went. So i guess i’ll have to see it again.

I’m such a sucker for love stories. And i now believe that Nicholas Sparks‘ works are very, very good.

I therefore conclude that I like Nicholas Sparks and that i should read his novels.

  1. i don’t anymore []

The Notebook

Posted by nix On February - 9 - 2008

I watched The Notebook this morning when Kendo woke me up at 5:30am and i couldn’t get back to sleep.

The Notebook is based from Nicholas Sparks‘ best selling novel. Staring Ryan Gosling as Noah Calhoun and Rachel McAdams as Allie Hamilton.

I’ve heard a lot of good reviews about this movie. Though during the time it was shown in theaters, i was not interested because i thought it was boring. But perception changes, and change is constant. I had been thinking of how this movie interest me after a few years since it was released.

One day i was in a bookstore, the novel caught my attention and i thought that since I’m back in a reading mood1, i might as well try to read it. I didn’t purchase the book yet because i have tons of books lying around the house that needs to be read. Let’s just say it now belongs to my long reading list. Then i realized that i bought a DVD collection of love stories and The Notebook is first on it’s list so i popped it in the player and watched and cried and could barely breathe after watching it.

It was terrible. I cried like a baby2. I could feel how the character was feeling if it was me in the character’s position. I loved it so much that i am going to buy the book when i get the chance and read it right away. I’m sure I’ll cry again.

Have you ever felt like wanting to cry but really have nothing to cry about? Or you want to cry about something but you don’t really want that to be the reason for crying? Well i have. And watching or reading dramas are a good excuse for those kinds of feelings for me. Does that make sense?

It was so sad, what happened to Noah and Allie, and at the same time, so sweet of Noah to dedicate his life, reading their life’s story to his forgetful wife3 every chance he gets just to make her remember. It’s sad that Noah had to endure the pain of making his wife remember, then she’d forget about him and their love in a span of 5 minutes. No wonder he has had 2 heart attacks in 18 months. And at the end, they died lying in bed together, holding each other’s hands. Oh how that made me cry like hell.

Yes, all i can say is that it is such a sad story and it made me cry a lot.

I rate this movie 9.7

  1. i have been reading books again for the past weeks []
  2. i always cry even in a movie with the slightest hint of drama in it []
  3. i forgot what her illness was called, it’s not Alzheimer’s though []

movie marathon

Posted by nix On January - 23 - 2008

I’ve seen 5 movies in 4 days. I’ve blogged about them separately, written short reviews, and didn’t elaborate on the story. I don’t want to spoil the movie as like what i used to do. LOL. So the movies I’ve seen are Good Luck Chuck, License to Wed, Juno, Sydney White, and Sweeney Todd. I also watched Heatbreak Kid last week, or maybe that was a week before the last.

After school, i headed to the place where i get my DVD’s to get my copy of HipHop Abs exchanged. Then i bought 4 more DVD’s, right now i can’t remember the titles i bought but i will definitely blog about them too. I also downloaded 2 movies the other night. One of them is I now pronounce you Chuck and Larry, and the other is The Ten. Adam Sandler is one of my favorite comedians and Jessica Alba is one of my favorite actresses too. She’s just so pretty.

Last week, i came across a book sale. Aside from the Php99 sale, all the books in the center table have a buy 1 take 1 promo. I couldn’t find anything that really interest me, but i got Stepford Wives and Achilles because they are kind of interesting. I liked the Stepford movie so i thought i’d read the book too. The book on the left is a book i plan to give mom, maybe on her birthday, which is on April. At least i have a gift already. *lol*

SYLAR IS ALIVE! NOOOOO!!!

Posted by nix On October - 14 - 2007

Yes, i just finished watching episode 3 of Heroes s2. He’s alive but with no powers, at least for now. Claire has found someone like her, which makes it easier for her to be herself around this guy. Or is it? Now we know that Mr. Bennett is going to die, he is the last one in Isaac Mendez’s series of 8. I like Hiro, he’s so.. what’s the word? I can’t think of it now but i like him. He’s so into this “hero” thing, excited about everything and feels that he has to make things right.

I still love That 70’s Show. Everyone is so funny and each episode has me laughing my a** off. I can’t believe that i’m nearing it’s end. Huhuhu.. No more Eric, Donna, Fez, Hyde, Jackie, and Kelso for me soon. I’m having a hard time watching it here in my PC though because it’s kind of crashing sometimes. I really, really, really need the disk space. My plans for now is saving everything for back-up and have this PC reformatted again, as a whole. It’s currently in partition. Now that i have DVD writer i can do whatever i want. LOL. Once i’m done, i’ll be torrenting Prison Break next. MUWAHAHAHA!

Mom ordered me a book from Reader’s Digest and it arrived yesterday. It’s so cool. Practical Projects for your PC. It has cool projects that i could try out and even has some tips on enhancing photos and using photo editors like Photoshop. It would be really useful for my business. It would teach me how to do stuff and allow me to be creative and explore my skills. I want to try it out as soon and as much as possible.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Posted by nix On July - 25 - 2007

I finally got my copy the other day but i only got the chance to read it yesterday. I think i’m in the 5th chapter, there’s so many things keeping me from my book. Here i am blogging about it. It’s sad that Hedwig died, and so did Mad-eye. I’ve read in a spoiler that Ron will die and i’m not in a hurry to find out what would happen with the others. I’m sure it would be too emotional for me. I’m glad that Dumbledore is alive, as i’ve read in the spoiler, i have not got to that part yet. But if i remember correctly, the spoiler also mentioned that he would die for real. I don’t know anymore. I’d just have to wait and see for myself. I want to take time in reading the book, really absorb what it says. It’s so sad all in all that this is the end of a wonderful adventure. It’s scary what a boy like Harry had to go through, but then again, it’s all fictional.

A couple of weeks before HP movie the 5th and book the 7th were released, i started reading book the 1st again. I think i’m halfway through, i was not able to finish it. With all the things that need to be done, i don’t think i would be able to fully read them again until i’ve really have the time. December would be good if the vacation we were invited for last year would still pull through, if mom would stop bossing me around and let me do some reading.

I’ve neglected a lot of things for reasons valid and not. I have yet to apply for an OJT and it’s already finals. I am confident that i could still do it, finish 120 hours of work. I just have to do my resume. Like right this moment. After this post.

I’m sucking in math so bad that i think i will fail again this semester. I have another major class i have failed to attend but still hoping for a passing grade. I’m doing pretty good with 2 of my subjects and i’m still waiting for a post on our next seminar.

Today is tito Douglas’ birthday. Mom called him earlier and we were instantly invited to the celebration tonight. HOORAY! Another night of hanging out with local celebrities and since i have a digicam now, it would double the fun of taking pictures. How i miss Richard Gutierrez. RAWR!~

Potter-mania

Posted by nix On July - 9 - 2007

LoL ate J, i’m not closing my site. AKO PA?! I don’t even remember what i posted last time since it seems ages ago. My computer’s video card has seemed to fail me, one reason why i haven’t been online that much. I discovered this last week, when i was going to send my resume to a friend. The resume is non-existant because i have yet to make one. Bum!

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will be shown on Wednesday which is soooo cool. But i will not watch it yet unlike last year when i got so excited that i cut class just to be one of the firsts to see an HP movie. This year, i want to see it on iMax in MoA. And since mom is still injured, we will wait a couple of weeks before watching the movie. Let it die down for a while. THE AGONY!!

Book the 7th will be released in a couple of weeks which is another thing to be excited about. I started reading book the 1st the other night because i want to refresh my memory. Wow. it has been 7 years since i first learned of Harry Potter, the time when my mom bought me the first four books of HP from the States. I can’t wait to get my hands on my reserved copy. I’m not even sure if i would have the money to purchase it, but i still will, i still have a credit card that hasn’t been used in over 5 months. BWAHAHAHAHA!!!

HP movie the 4th was on on HBO last night. I remember when i first saw it that i was crying like crazy when Cedric Diggory died, when his father found out he was dead, that was such an emotional scene. I cry easily anyway and i’ve cried on all sad/emotional movies i’ve seen and books i’ve read.

The movies disappoint me a little. And to think i’m not as an addicted fan as everybody else who notice the slightest detail of miscalculation in the whole series. Hehehe.. I read in the K-Zone issue for this month that Daniel Radcliffe let slip that Dumbledore may still be alive. HOORAY!! He said the J.K. Rowling dropped by the set of the 5th movie and told him that she needed a break because Dumbledore was giving her a difficult time. If that is true, then i would really be happy! I wonder what book the 7th holds?? Oh, there was another spoiler that 2 of the main characters will die. Aww.. i wonder who those are? I wonder if Harry would die? If he did then i’m sure Julius would be happy because he doesn’t like Harry. HAHAHAHA!

ciao!

chicken thigh shortage?

Posted by nix On March - 13 - 2007
[edit] i just enrolled myself in another advertising program. http://www.blogvertise.com i’m trying it out. Maybe i could save money to buy stuff online, which would be fun, right? Paypal is still new with me so, if anybody could explain to me how Paypal works because i’m kind of slow.

It seems that there is a chicken thigh shortage in food chains. I was craving for chicken thighs earlier and i went to Jollibee and KFC and they have no thighs! It has been going on for a few weeks now, i noticed. They mostly have legs, ribs, or wings. Which is kind of depressing because the thigh is my favorite part, next is legs. But the leg is a small portion and i think it would take 3 legs to satisfy me. lol.

I was in Powerbooks afterwards and found the 19th series of Pugad Baboy. I love that book! It makes me laugh all the time. Some jokes aren’t as funny as others, but still a good reliever. (http://www.blogvertise.com)

I also found a couple of books that caught my interest. One is Vince’s Life. A compilation of stories from a guy who was hidden under the name of Vince, whose life story is featured monthly in Seventeen magazine. I read the first story and liked it, so i’ll probably buy it next time i have money. (http://www.blogvertise.com)There’s so many books that i want to buy and read, and i still have a lot at my shelf that i haven’t read. I know i’ll be able to get to them soon, but i’m afraid that it will take a long time.
