313 words      Disclosure Policy

When i saw the last episode of Kyle XY last November (?), i didn’t think i could wait till February to see the next episodes. With school and business had my attention, i totally forgot about TV series. But a few weeks ago, i tried searching for new episodes and found new ones from the TV shows that i love. It’s almost March and i have 6 episodes of Kyle XY to download and watch. :adore:

I haven’t seen a movie for the past couple of weeks, though i still have “I Now Pronounce You as Chuck and Larry” and “The Ten” on my hard drive. There are also DVDs under the TV set that i want to watch, but lately i have been coming home at night, when all my favorite local shows are shown. :smilee:

Yesterday, i went with Sherril to an office in Makati where we were to apply for an OJT. We both got in and she started that same day too, i would have had the same starting day but i didn’t have the letter from school yet. I didn’t expect it to be that easy. I was told that i could start on Tuesday if i could present my letter then. Now my problem is that i have the letter, signed by the faculty practicum coordinator and the dean, but i haven’t seen the school director in the past two days. My only hope is that if i could catch her tomorrow in school, if not, i’d have to inform the person who interviewed me that the letter is incomplete. :dead:

Chapter II of our thesis should be passed on Tuesday and we haven’t done anything yet. We still have 3 days and that’s what i have to do tonight, work on a part of it so i’d have something to merge with my partner’s work.

Like what i mentioned in yesterday’s post, i added more plugins which were featured in Mashable.com’s WORDPRESS GOD: 300+ Tools for Running your Wordpress Blog. You could check it out yourself of course, but i’d like to mention a few that i figured would really help me with organizing my blog.

meso what?

According to Wikipedia:

Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that is almost always caused by previous exposure to asbestos. In this disease, malignant cells develop in the mesothelium, a protective lining that covers most of the body’s internal organs. Its most common site is the pleura (outer lining of the lungs and chest cavity), but it may also occur in the peritoneum (the lining of the abdominal cavity) or the pericardium (a sac that surrounds the heart).

Most people who develop mesothelioma have worked on jobs where they inhaled asbestos particles, or have been exposed to asbestos dust and fibre in other ways, such as by washing the clothes of a family member who worked with asbestos, or by home renovation using asbestos cement products. Unlike lung cancer, there is no association between mesothelioma and smoking.

Hmm.. so that’s what mesothelioma is. That goes for people who have worked at companies or factories where they have close contact to asbestos and have inhaled its particles. Now i know that it is dangerous and the public should be aware about instances like this.

We often get in close contact with different kinds of chemicals in our daily lives. How do we know that our body is not affected? Isn’t asbestos the round thing that people put in their bathroom? With this kind of information, we should be careful with what we inhale as it may affect our lungs.

If you think you’ve inhaled too much asbestos particles or any chemicals for that matter, go to the doctor for a check-up. It could be mesothelioma or worse. Could there be anything worse?

Thanks to the world wide web and Wikipedia with their useful information.

mom’s injury

388 words      Disclosure Policy

Last year, my mom spent a lot of time in the hospital because of her knee operation. She had a torn ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament), which is a common injury of basketball players, and medial cartilage meniscus, a common soccer player injury, at the same time.

It all started in January 2006, when she was on duty1. She was on her way to clean the lavatory when she slipped. According to her story, her face almost kissed the ceiling and she tried to save her face from hitting the counter. When she recovered from the fall, her left knee went sideways. It wasn’t twisted, her knee freakishly, literally went sideways. She was more embarrassed with the idea that somebody might have seen her slip than the idea that she had a freak accident. She regained her poise and went to the cockpit and asked the pilots if they saw her slip and fall. The pilot jokingly said that nobody saw it though they heard a loud thump as if a fridge fell.

She was still doing well after that incident. Though there are times that she would get off balance and fall. They thought it was nothing, and at the medical they would just have an X-Ray because getting an MRI is expensive. A year had past when the ligaments and tendons holding her knee snapped. And it happened simply, we were watching a Flamenco dance concert at the Mall of Asia. She switched positions in her seat when she heard a loud bang. That was the start of a hell for us. The MRI showed the knee injury and the need of an immediate operation. The doctor said that if they had discovered the injury at an earlier time, it would have been easier to fix and would only require a short time to recover.

Good thing every accident she has had since the first fall was reported. She had an industrial leave and the company had to pay for everything. If it hadn’t, we couldn’t afford the hospitalization even with her life insurance. And good thing too that she has an insurance it would really help, though she’s not finished paying for that insurance yet. As for me, i have to be careful because i don’t have an insurance yet.
